Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a game that values and rewards collecting more than any other, and it does so better than any other. Whether it's furniture, villagers, or fish, the game's goal is to reward the player for their foresight.

Fish and insects/bugs make up a significant portion of the game's collectible items, accounting for approximately 200 critters in total. In addition to donating them to the museum or adding them to your Critterpedia, selling them can net you a nice profit if you sell them to the right person!

Some of these creatures are worth tens of thousands of bells each if you sell them to CJ or Flick, and catching a certain number of them or different varieties can also net you ACNH nook miles.

To begin, you'll need the appropriate materials. The flimsy versions of the Net and Fishing Rod can be easily crafted with varying amounts of tree branches, but it's much more convenient to simply purchase the upgraded versions at Nook's Cranny, which become available after reaching a certain point in the game.

You can always make the upgraded version if you want to, provided you have the necessary DIYs. Iron, on the other hand, can be difficult to come by. The 2500 bells required to purchase one of the upgraded tools are much easier to come by, and you won't have to waste materials that you might otherwise need.
Next comes the actual catching of the critters. The best piece of advice is to never, ever sprint when trying to catch a bug or a fish. Because they are easily startled and the spawns are mostly random, it can be difficult to catch a creature that you have already scared away.

Sneaking up on insects is the most effective method of catching them, especially tarantulas and scorpions, which can bite and sting you if you are not careful. Some insects are even more fearful than others and will fly or jump away if you get too close to them without sneaking up on them.

Something that doesn't seem to warrant mention is the fact that your net has the potential to miss. If you get too close to a bug and attempt to catch it, you will most likely miss, especially if the bug is resting on a tree or rock. You will undoubtedly want to put in some practice time.

Fish, on the other hand, are an entirely different story. It's going to take some practice to figure out how to catch them.  They will only take the bait if it is directly in front of them, and certain fish can only be caught with bait. Other fish can only be caught from the docks on your island, so you'll want to do your research before attempting to catch one.

There are also six different sizes of fish shadows in the game, and certain fish can only be found in a specific size. Whale Sharks, for example, can only be 6 feet long and have a fin that sticks out of the water. Because a clown fish can only be found in one size, you'll want to know what sizes your target fish can be found in.

Both insects and bugs appear at specific times of the year and at specific times of the day. Dragonflies are only visible during the day, whereas moths are only visible at night. Sharks can only be caught in the ocean during the summer, and cherry trout can only be caught in mountain creeks during the spring.

How to catch a Golden StagACNH is an abbreviation for the American Council on Health and Human Services.
The month of July saw the addition of 21 new bugs to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Three of the most expensive bugs in the game, which sell for 12,000 bells each, were included in the lengthy list of creatures.

Players also have a chance to catch the elusive Golden Stag by completing these objectives.
The Golden Stag is one of the most difficult bugs to capture in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. In order to catch the rare beetle species, players will need to know how to catch them the next time they come across one on their Animal Crossing: New Horizons island.

In order to catch the Golden Stag, players must be aware of when and where the bug spawns. It is only available in the game during the months of July and August. Furthermore, it only appears on palm trees between the hours of 5:00 p. m.  and 8:00 a.  m. The busiest hours are between 11:00 p. m.  and 8:00 a.  m.
