Visualizing the cervix is a critical component of the cervical cancer screening procedure because it allows for the detection of cervical cancer. Making an accurate diagnosis of abnormalities on the cervix necessitates the ability to clearly see the cervix, whether during colposcopy or Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA).

More than 50 healthcare systems in the United States are currently using the MobileODT EVA System digital colposcope, which is currently in use in 42 countries and more than 50 healthcare systems worldwide. An interview with Alon Metrikin-Gold, Head of Customer Success at MobileODT, is presented below. In it, he discusses some of the most common issues that clinicians encounter when visualizing the cervix, along with possible solutions to these issues.

Because of the vaginal walls, it is impossible to see the cervix.

Lax vaginal walls, particularly in cases where the patient is overweight or suffering from vaginal atrophy, can make it difficult for the clinician to see the entire cervix, which can be particularly dangerous.

Numerous potential solutions are available, including the following:

As a first step, experiment with different positions of the speculum to see if repositioning it will improve your field of vision.

As a result, if the vaginal walls are protruding through the sides of the speculum, the use of a vaginal retractor to hold them in place until the procedure has been completed may be necessary.

When it comes to having another instrument inserted into their vaginal canal during their period, many women find it to be a highly uncomfortable experience.

The cervix is obscured by a dark shadow at the bottom of this photograph, making it difficult to see clearly. This is caused by either incorrect positioning of the light source or incorrect holding of the colposcope at an angle.

In order to resolve this issue, raise the position of your light source so that it is higher in relation to the vaginal canal.

The colposcopy gynecology may need to be repositioned at some point during the procedure.

The EVA System, which has a built-in light source, can be used to solve both potential problems with a single setting adjustment.

There may be mucus, blood, or other substances present on the cervix's surface.

The cervix may become clogged with a variety of substances, making it difficult to see clearly through the tube.

In some cases, a cotton swab or surgical tongs are used to remove excess mucus, depending on the situation.

It is possible to experience bleeding while inserting the speculum or after the biopsy procedure has been completed.

With the help of a cotton swab, abnormal colposcopy is possible to stop the bleeding and remove any blood that has accumulated on the surface of the cervix for the second time.

Speculum is obstructed in some way.

When using a speculum, it can be difficult to get a clear view of the cervix because of the haze. This problem could be caused by an incorrectly-placed speculum; in this case, repositioning the speculum will allow for complete visualization of the cervix.

The majority of the time, a simple adjustment in the angle of the speculum is all that is required to correct the problem.

If the abnormal colposcopy is not properly positioned in relation to the cervix, even a correctly placed speculum can cause obstruction of the cervix, which can be fatal. Even when the cervical colposcopy is properly positioned in relation to the cervix, this can occur in some cases.
